Top 7 Hay Fever Fighters

By sneak attack this weekend, some pollen found its way to my body and I was a mild wreck and felt like I was in a fog.  Hay Fever season is in full gear here in Nevada and you can engrave your name through the pollen dust on any car hood at any given time right now.  I think not getting enough sleep and skipping two night time showers did me in this weekend.  So, I wanted to share my favorite hay fever tips that have been tried and true for my household–if you remember to follow them that is!

  • No wearing shoes in the house–this simply tracks in pollen, pesticides and what ever else you’ve been walking upon.
  • Change your clothes as soon as you get home–take off those clothes that are carrying pollen.
  • Shower nightly– pollen lands on your hair and then you when you lay your head on the pillow you’re now soaking your head in pollen.
  • Keep windows closed each morning until after 10am–apparently, pollination is at it’s height before 10am.
  • Take anti-histamines before you feel symptoms–speak to your allergist regarding a hay fever season plan–especially if you are asthmatic.
  • Avoid the wind like the plague.  The wind is not your friend right now.
  • Get rest!  Being tired does not help your immune system.
  • BONUS: Tip–run a heavy duty air filter that you can move room to room to suck up any pollen that sneaks into your house.

        I just had my work schedule changed… again. I now work from 5 pm-2 am. I can’t join you for nighttime events -darn. Molly will be at cheer practice & can’t make the event, either. we will be with you in spirit!
