What's Inside that Cigarette?

You are here: Home / Lung Health / What's Inside that Cigarette?

August 28, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 4 Comments

Interesting and short video of what makes up a cigarette! Fascinating.  Can you guess what is in a cigarette?   I’ll give you only one hint: 30% of reconstituted tobacco swept from the factory floor.  Eeeew.

What really struck me was the work and conscious effort that goes into a cigarette to make it palatable.  If it tastes so horrible, why are we trying to make it better?  Oh the irony!  Let’s take the carcinogen that tastes bad to make it taste better so the illness created will be more palatable?  Oh my.
Sarcasm aside, I did find this video interesting.
Happy Tuesday!

The website below is very explanatory about the ingredients. Today’s cigs are highly addictive & this is intentional. For those who truly want to overcome the addiction, they have to battle not only the psychological tendencies; but, the physical addiction. Cessation is not easy. Of course, we wonder why they start, but that is why there are psych factors involved.
It is interesting to note that home grown marijuana cigs that use a filter are a much healthier alternative (but, don’t tell your kids!).

…although, we don’t want any smoking of anything! Our goals are quite hefty! Actually, when I observed a Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.) program, it was fascinating to see how many kids thought marijuana smoking still didn’t count as smoking. They thought it would not cause lung damage. It is a great program that allows kids to learn and talk peer to peer.

While not as carcinogenic, marijuana is still very toxic to the lung tissue. The amazing organs are designed for air -nothing else. We don’t give them enough respect. The TATU program is pretty darned awesome. Many thanks go to the local branch of the American Lung Association for their hard work and efforts at lung health education.
