Wahoo! FREE Epipens for Schools Continues On

You are here: Home / EPI / Wahoo! FREE Epipens for Schools Continues On

September 5, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 8 Comments

Yes!  I emailed our beloved Senator Debbie Smith and my school district about this fabulous news.  The EpiPen4SchoolsTM program, through which schools across the country can receive four free EpiPen® or EpiPen Jr® (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors upon qualification-will be expanded another year.  This is fantastic news and I’m jumping up and down.  In my mind, there is simply no choice: we must get epinephrine auto-injectors in all schools and the free program is a wonderful way to “inspire” states and school districts to say yes to stocking these life saving devices.
four boxes of epi pens

Details and information on how to apply are available at EpiPen4SchoolsTM

The more we get the word out the better!  Especially to states who have passed stock epinephrine in law.  Even within my own state, a few school nurses did not realize there was a free program and were feeling frustrated until a few savvy parents made them aware.  So, please don’t assume school districts or your own school is aware of this program.  I feel that sometimes schools, parents (myself included) are at some point afraid of epinephrine auto-injectors and hesitate at the thought of having to use them.  If schools begin stocking these life saving devices, then possibly everyone will become comfortable with their purpose and the more they train and practice the more awareness spreads.  It’s all good stuff.

Spread the word about Mylan’s EpiPen4SchoolsTM program!

How do we get qualified? Is the student’s prescription or school’s authorization for Epipen be enough to get a free Epipen? Thank you.

      Hi Wen,
You need to go the website and read about the qualifications. The free EpiPens are only for the school to keep on hand. Not for a specific student and I am making a guess here, but I believe that schools need to be legally capable of ordering based on state law. I’m not fully sure on the criteria. I know some schools have called the 800 number to for more data. Hope this helps. If you are seeking info on the zero co-pay for an individual, then check out: https://activatemysavings.com/epipen/
