Yesterday, from the comfort of my favorite swivel chair, I learned about Thermo Fisher Scientific via a webinar from Sign Up HERE. I blogged about this new peanut allergy testing on Monday in my “Online Peanut Summit, Learn About Molecular Testing” post. Yes, I now know what it is and why some folks may be quite interested in learning more. There is one more seminar being held this morning, Thursday, June 28th, from 4:30-5:30pm EST ! Sign Up HERE to participate.
In a nut shell (pun intended), molecular testing is testing for the ingredients in the soup rather than the whole soup. Current tests look at the whole peanut, which encompasses many varieties of proteins. This test breaks it down. So why you ask? To help determine how severe the peanut allergy really is!
I was able to sit back and listen to presentations from food allergy Mom and Los Angeles Food Allergy Walk chair, Yael Kozar, Dr. Rob Reinhardt and Dr. Maeve O’Conner as I learned more about this testing that is new to me. I highly suggest everyone taking the time, if possible to learn more as I have a feeling this kind of testing may grow in popularity. Even if this testing is not for you or of interest, being educated on the topic and able to speak to it is key.
I will blog in further detail next week after I enjoy a personal phone call with Dr. Rob Reinhardt and gather more information. So, stay tuned for next’s week’s blog where I explore why or why not this testing may be of great interest to folks like us! I still have two more detailed questions I would like answered.
Happy Thursday–only one more day to the Weekend–YAHOOO-Caroline
