I thought the time would fly by but it didn’t. Three and a half weeks was just perfect. I thought I would be crying in my soy milk, but I feel so peaceful and re-energized. Today we venture home as our remodeling comes to a close. Our time in our little rented cabin in the woods has delivered more than clean air, daily visits to Tahoe House for coffee and Swiss Kisses, daily visits to Spoon for soft serve ice cream (that’s not me eating ice cream), and walks in the forest and on the beach.
Ten unexpected things I learned when life slowed down:
1. If you discover an amazing organic bakery with vegan and gluten free options, buy your pal two beautiful gluten free cupcakes and eat them before you can give them to her. Don’t confess.
2. Stellar Jays are smarter than me and work in teams to confuse city humans as they steal food.
3. Tossing rocks into water is therapeutic.
4. Carrying extra Emergency kits really pays off (the kind that holds Epi Pens and inhalers that is).
5. Breathing in clean mountain air is incredible and amazing.
6. My children are actually interesting.
7. Our super allergic family is not allergic to various pine tree pollens. We wanted to roll in the yellow stuff since we’re the only ones not feeling stuffy!
8. Just listening to your surroundings and being still brings unexpected clarity.
9. Always pack your nebulizer and and asthma medications–you just may need ’em.
10. If you fall asleep in the forest and snore, you can blame it on the bears.
Can’t wait until my next trip to Lake Tahoe.

I was so focused on avoiding toxins I forgot about all the wonderful things that were coming with being still and learning more about my family. Can’t wait to try to do this again.
