Spreading Epi Pen Love With School Nurses

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Spreading Epi Pen Love With School Nurses

November 21, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 8 Comments

Despite my whining about the first snow fall of the season (I love the snow, but whine about driving in it), this morning was uplifting and inspiring.  Today we celebrated the arrival of the mandated stock epinephrine auto-injectors to the Washoe County School District (WCSD), in Nevada.  I had the honor of representing the food allergy parents in the WCSD today as I showered our school nurses with words of gratitude and nut free muffins, pumpkin bread, banana bread, gratefulfoodie-VeganBananaMuffinRecipe-2015, soybutter chocolate bars, wine charms (thanks to the American Lung Association in No. Nevada) and a hot chocolate kit (thanks April–good call).  Senator Debbie Smith tried to make it over to the school nurse meeting but had other commitments, so she sent a lovely message that I read to our school nurses.

I just love days like this:  full of love, gratitude and dedication to saving and protecting lives of children who managing life threatening food allergies and anaphylaxis at school.  There is nothing better than being the person bringing gifts too.  In all honesty, I am very proud of Nevada and my school district’s role in working with us on the legislation, along with other districts across the state.  I read our policy and am VERY proud of the protocol, the clarity of forms and policy and the training that took place recently.  The Clark County School District in Las Vegas already has their EpiPens® and other districts are receiving theirs as we speak.

My homespun tribute to the 25th birthday of the EpiPen®

A HUGE shout to Mylan for supplying the first round of EpiPens®!  This is was no small endeavor and your donation will save lives.  We know this.  We appreciate this.  We are thankful your EpiPens4School program.

A BIG shout out to Senator Debbie Smith for her non-stop and never-ending dedication to our food allergy community!  You are a blessing to our state.  Thank you to the Nevada Legislature for recognizing the importance and critical need for mandated stock epinephrine in schools.  I’m proud that we did not wait for tragedy to be proactive.

      Hi Kelly,
Have you tried the gluten free hamburger bun at Red Robin? I had it the other day and then forgot to ask about sesame seed and tree nuts.
