Speak Up: Food Allergen Labeling

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Speak Up: Food Allergen Labeling

February 7, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 6 Comments

Last Friday, Jessica posted a comment on my blog, Interesting View: Peanut Cross Contact, regarding a the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN)(FDA) seeking public comment about food allergen labeling.  Today is the last day to be heard!  She included the FARE, but I think it is worth a separate blog post  in case you have a few extra minutes and can weight in your opinions. Here is a copy of the entire email I received from Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), formerly the FARE:

Email from Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) regarding survey from the https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C25NVH8…our voices are needed….

Dear Friends of FARE:
As you may know, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is seeking public comment on two matters of great importance to our community. Both of these issues directly speak to how food is labeled for the presence of allergens. First, the FDA is seeking to determine whether it can safely establish threshold levels for major food allergens. Secondly and separately, the FDA is seeking public comment on its proposed rule – required by the Food Safety Modernization Act – on preventive controls (including food allergen controls) within the food manufacturing industry. FARE has convened a working group comprising food allergy parents, allergists and researchers to help inform FARE’s response to the FDA on both of these issues.
It is important to us to hear from members of the community on these issues, so we have created a survey to help us get your input. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and includes questions about the food allergies you are managing, your current behaviors with respect to food labeling and your knowledge about allergen thresholds.

The survey is available at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C25NVH8

We hope you will take the time to provide us with your input. Please feel free to share the link and this email with your food allergy networks and support groups.

If you have a chance, please consider completing the survey.  My belief is that is someone is asking us for our thoughts, then let’s be heard, loud and clear.  Possibly, we can be part of the solution.

No problem! It was short and easy to complete. I wish they would’ve had a section that was geared towards people like me that don’t suffer from food allergies, but food sensitivities that really complicate my Fibro. What they have is a start, though, so I will not complain! 🙂
