Road To TedX: Allergic Teen Needs Your Help

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Road To TedX: Allergic Teen Needs Your Help

September 19, 2014 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 9 Comments

Today’s post is 100% self serving.  My high school junior son, Cyrus, learned this week that he was chosen to be one of seven students (the others are all college students) to compete for a coveted Nevada TedX talk spot!  He is absolutely thrilled and honored for this opportunity to speak about all students who live with life threatening food allergies that are excluded and often segregated in the quest to keep them safe.  He is on #TheRoadToTedX.  Here is Cyrus’ request to you…

Dear food allergy community,
I am very excited to be able to give voice to a matter that I think is quite pressing in this day and age. I have been personally affected by this segregation and feel that it is one of the most important issue with food allergies in schools. I’ve been asked to promote this event, so I’m asking ALL of you to help me:
Please:

  • Attend the October 1st, 6pm-9pm – Nevada Student Speaker Competition in the Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom, University of Reno, NV
  • Share links to the Nevada Student Speaker Competition (NVSSC) Facebook Page on your social media
  • Like the NVSSC facebook page
  • Share event details and invite people who you think need to hear about food allergies and exclusion
  • Post about this event on your social media
  • Use #TheRoadtoTedX or #NVSSC hashtags
  • Include @NVSSC_UNR  if you use twitter

Thank you to everyone who supports this and everyone who is helping create a better world for food allergic children and food allergic people.
-Cyrus

From mom:  when you like the NVSSC facebook page, can you give a shout out and/or words of encouragement to Cyrus and food allergy conversation.  As a food allergy advocate, I would like to show our Nevada TedX organizers that this topic is very important to our food allergy community and that we need more of these types of conversations!

Happy Friday and please help us spread the word about the Nevada Student Speaker Competition and to cheer on teen Cyrus Moassessi in his work to raise food allergy awareness.

Very exciting, Caroline! You must be so proud of him. Just liked the FB page and left a comment. Will this be online after the event, so I can watch it here in Switzerland?

      Hi Heddi,
I believe so! I just learned that I can share his 60 second video application. I think I’ll post that on my blog on Monday. I am proud that he is finally coming to that age that he is feeling more comfortable in his own skin and is beginning to discover who he is and what he wants to say. Sometimes, I hate that he is growing up, but I’m also in awe of watching him grow into becoming a young man with his own convictions and thoughts. It’s all pretty fun!

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
