Oh my, it still rings in my head, “yummy, yummy, fruit salad…” , those Wiggles songs never die! So guess what? Anthony Field’s, from the Wiggles, son has food allergies and he is now a Spokesman for Anaphylaxis Australia! He demonstrated how to use an Epi Pen on Australian TV (Today show). Once again, I am pleased to see celebrities being real, sharing their challenges and most of all, working hard to save lives! He really did the right thing for all people with anaphylactic food and other allergies (bee stings, medicines, etc.) by demonstrating how to use a life saving Epi Pen®, which is an auto-injector that dispenses epinephrine.
He easily could have focused on only raising food allergy awareness, but instead he chose to raise awareness by providing life saving instruction. Bravo! He knows first hand about food allergies thanks to his own son’s experience that sent him to the Emergency Room after eating peanut butter, which had been safely eating previously. Anthony is a winner indeed! He understands that this disease is dangerous but workable if we all learn about prevention and emergency response!
Clearly, Anthony wants to teach everyone about food allergies, but most of all, he wants all of us to know what to do in an emergency. Prevention is the first half of managing a food allergy and emergency response is the second half. Every second counts. Just for grins, please check out this How to Use An Epi Pen® video from Dey, the makers of Epi Pen®.
Then ask yourself these questions:
[unordered_list style=”tick”]
- Do you know where your own, your child’s or friend’s Epi Pen® is located?
- Do you know what part of the body the Epi Pen goes into?
- What do you do to activate the Epi Pen so that the pen injects medication into the body?
- How long do you hold the Epi pen against the body?
- Do you feel ready to respond to an emergency? If not, is there someone you can practice with?
As much as I groaned about the Wiggles with those syrupy songs, I still sang along with my son, bought the videos and happily popped them in. I actually did find the Wiggles rather funny and honestly, a breath of fresh air against all the fast action kids shows that look like they are on speed as they blow through scenes and concepts like lightning. Oddly enough, I was happy to see a “Wiggle” again, all grown up and doing good things for kids. I just found out that the Wiggles can be found on the Sprout channel and you can even download coloring pages!
I can’t help myself, but two of my other favorite things from Australia is the Activeaide Epi Pen carrier and Violet Crumble candy bars, which you can buy from Aussie Products! See my blog on this Epi Pen® holder, which is one of my favorites!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!-
Connie
LOVE that such a high profile personality for children has taken on this role for Anaphylaxis Australia. WTG Anthony! And he did a great job of describing the issues. Yay!

I think it is fantastic that the wiggles r backing anaphylactic people. Being one myself I think that it is important for people to learn and understand what an epipen is and how to use it. Also so many people don’t understand about allergic reactions and.how they can kill.
Caroline
This is our challenge, getting others to truly understand. I’m happy that another celebrity is stepping up!
