Oh Dr. Oz Do You Really Know Food Allergies?

You are here: Home / EPI / Oh Dr. Oz Do You Really Know Food Allergies?

June 13, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 5 Comments

Yesterday, I shared my admiration of Henry Erhlich, from Asthma Allergies Children,  who loves to fly under the radar and undetected, and today I want to share a prime example of why: “Unreality TV and The Food Allergy Epidemic”.  This recent blog post is just what I am talking about regarding diving a little deeper into food allergy information.  Recently, TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz and Cleveland Clinic physician Dr. Mike Roizen, published a news article, “What You Can Do About Food Allergies”.  Asthma Allergies Children posted a response to this article questioning some of the points made by the two doctors.

To be honest, this is the type of conversation I adore!  I grew up next to anaphylaxis  during the ’70’s and read enough bumper stickers that stated Question Authority enough times to make my eyes bleed.  But… in reality, and especially when managing chronically ill children with asthma and life threatening food allergies and anaphylaxis, we need to question, seek second opinions and ensure that we do understand doctor’s orders.  Therefore, I like that Dr. Larry Chiaramonte, co-author of Asthma Allergies Children: a parent’s guide took Dr. Larry Chiaramonte article to task.   I don’t want to give away the interesting  response, but let’s just say I really do enjoy a good food allergy data “throw down” from time to time!

What did you think of Asthma Allergies Children blog post, “Unreality TV and The Food Allergy Epidemic?”—please share your thoughts below.

I loved the response to Dr. Oz’s article! I think it is amazing the different thoughts on the food allergy debate. I firmly believe that we have done this to ourselves in a lot of ways, but the fact remains that, no matter the cause, food allergies are REAL and deserve respect. I hope they find a kill switch for them, but until then, we raise awareness and do what we can to keep our loved ones safe!

      Julie,
Isn’t it fascinating how our health issues evolve. I loved this response too–hence why I had to write again about Asthma Allergies Children. It was too good to pass up.
      You are right…awareness…..awareness….awareness!
      Have a fabulous day!

It is interesting how they’ve evolved, Caroline! The health issues we face today we did not have 20 years ago…Or maybe we did and just didn’t know it! The world may never know! At any rate, yes, awareness is key! 🙂
You have a fabulous day, too, my friend!

Caroline–thanks for making Larry, Paul, and me look like the Rolling Stones (age appropriate rock stars).
