Leila approved: Skeeter Snacks nut free cookies

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Leila approved: Skeeter Snacks nut free cookies

April 25, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

It’s not always that easy to get the Leila stamp of cookie approval since this child is spoiled with weekly homemade treats!  Alas, today she gave the thumbs up to the newly released Peanut and Tree Nut-free Skeeter Snacks Chocolate Chip cookie.  We did a formal taste test, including  mouth rinsing between cookie varieties (think wine tasting kid style)!

I heard about Skeeter and then asked them if they would consider sending over a sample so we could do a taste test and blog about it.  Now, since I am highly opinionated, this is a risky request since I believe in sharing all my thoughts since something I don’t like might be exactly what inspires you or is what you are seeking.  Having full confidence, they sent a sample over.  Good call–the cookies were tasty!
the three peanut free and tree nut free cookies we tested from Skeeter

How we ranked the Skeeter Snacks Peanut Free and Tree Nut Free cookie flavors:

[unordered_list style=”star”]
  • Chocolate Chip–nice crisp texture, great tasting chips and I could actually taste the butter flavor!
  • Skeeter Doodle–again, nice and crisp with even better buttery flavor—my personal favorite.
  • Oatmeal–good texture and I loved the raisins and flavor, but there is no convincing my daughter that oatmeal makes a fine cookie too.

What we liked best about this nut free company and cookies:

[unordered_list style=”tick”]
  • Skeeter, the nut allergic Squirrel character–he cracks me up as he has his own bill of rights.
  • The Skeeter has own Play with Skeeter game section, he offers word searches, coloring pages and you can even ask Skeeter a question!  Skeeter peanut and tree nut allergy word jumble is fabulous since the kids need to identify the photo of the nut before unscrambling a word!
  • The company is owned and operated by two “bald dads” of food allergic children, they walk our talk.
  • No nuts are allowed in their facility–down to the employee lunch room and vending machine!
  • You can place large orders directly with Skeeter Snacks if you are ordering for your team, school, church, etc.
  • Free shipping on orders over $40.
  • Their website offers food allergy education-I don’t think we can ever have enough of that!
[/unordered_list]

Leila’s favorite was…Leila approves Skeeter nut free cookies

 What didn’t rock our world:

[unordered_list style=”red-x”]
  • Cookies are offered only in two packs.  I would love to see one day a 12-24 pack that I can easily bring to school or to events.
[/unordered_list] All in all, we are fans of this company based on their commitment to food allergy awareness, education and producing nut free treats for the masses!  Okay, I  admit that I really love their thoughtfulness behind not allowing nuts to ever enter the building, even in employee lunches!

Update of mid-morning today:  If I order BIG (really, that  is how it is offered on the site-ORDER BIG)…this is how the cookies are shipped…

Hope you’re having a wonderfully peaceful day that maybe includes a cookie?-Caroline

We have also tried Skeeter Snacks and love them! My daughter has a peanute allergy, but her friends have been asking for them too. My friend Eileen ordered them from the website and they came in a few days.
Yeah, a safe treat that tastes good!

Dale, don’t you think they have such a nice buttery flavor. I think we’ll order some for when my daughter goes to play dates. I always feel better packing snacks for everyone when she visits a friend’s house. It is easier on everyone.
