Guilty Pleasure: Allergic Living and Tea

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Guilty Pleasure: Allergic Living and Tea

June 27, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

Yesterday, I returned from a fabulous week in Los Angeles, where I attend my American Lung Association National meeting (can we say inspired?) and visiting family.  I was suppose to be catching up on my out-of-control list of emails and taking breaks to work on cleaning out my closet.  BUT… my new issue of Allergic Living arrived and my beloved mug from Jenny, co-organizer of the Food Allergy Blogger Conference, called out my name.  I just love this magazine to no end!  When I read, I forget that I am managing a household of life threatening food allergies, asthma and hay fever.  Instead, I feel like a regular mom, checking out interesting recipes, summer fun items while reading stories about living a quality life.  That quality of live just so happens to include a few diseases!
Burger up story

Anyone ready for a Vegan, Gluten Free Burger?

I flipped open the pages and this fabulous piece, “Burger Up!” by Alisa Fleming, popped up.  Score!  I also receive Savuer magazine (a true sinfully hard core foodie magazine) and I felt as if I was not reading a “special” health management magazine, but that I was floating on the gourmet cutting edge culinary boat.  I’m an Alisa fan through and through and did not realize that she had written the piece until just now!  So, I was not my usually biased self.  I relished that the cheeses were of the cheese-less Vegan variety and that gluten free bun ideas were offered.
potluck strategies

Potlucks for folks with Food Allergies?

Staying on the Alisa love boat, I also was tickled with the Practical Potluck piece as well.  I thought the color coded salad and pasta bowl sets were simply brilliant.  As a rule, we don’t eat at potlucks, unless of I’m hosting or if other food allergy families are participating.  Needless to say, my closet is not in good condition today and my emails remain out-of-control.

If you receive Allergic Living Magazine, which section is your favorite?

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
