Finding balance and peace in Reno

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Finding balance and peace in Reno

May 23, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 3 Comments

It’s so obvious that I missed it!  In all my rushing around this month as I planned to attend the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network’s Food Allergy Conference in Anaheim, food allergy safe vacation travel and school projects, I forgot about balance.  Not balancing on high heels but balancing my life.  You know, those precious peaceful moments that balance hectic family days?  It seems that balance slipped off my radar into some dark hole, until…
The gods of balance and peace smiled upon me and I won a spa day at Lime Spa in Reno, NV .  This was the best surprise any mom could receive!  As my kids finished their last full day of school, this mom finished her day, with pomegranate champagne in hand at the spa.  Managing kids with chronic illness can really add some extra juice to our job as the family manager, so maintaining balance, peace and a dash of harmony is a welcomed concept!

Three fabulous highlights of my Bourbon Bubbler Kentucy Whiskey body scrub…

  • I melted away into a land far away from homework, Epi Pens®, inhalers and any sort of work

We spent four glorious hours enjoying our skin being massaged, beautified with facials (I don’t think beautified is a real word, but it makes me giggle) and having our weary feet massaged and then transformed into gorgeous feet with wicked colored nail polish.   Not to mention out bodies being scrubbed clean with gluten-free,  Nut and dairy free VEGAN FarmHouse Fresh (now there is a mouthful). They use products from Bourbon Bubbler Kentucy Whiskey body scrub which are 88%-99.6% natural, paraben and sulfate free and mostly vegan and gluten-free.

Two of us three moms escaping reality into peaceful bliss needed to avoid certain allergens.  I visited this spa a few months ago for a manicure.  At that time, I shared which allergens I was avoiding due to my kids allergies since they  love all over me and I didn’t want to cause a reaction.  Upon my arrival this week, they updated my information and brought over bottles of oils to confirm which were safe–before I even had the chance to ask!  They read and re-read labels to make sure they were not contaminating us with allergens.
My allergen free pedicure at Lime Spa Reno
The service and über kind staff was the crowning cherry to the quality services we received.  My massage was excellent as the masseuse worked out my tight neck and shoulder muscles.  The body scrub was much-needed after a long cold winter and that FarmHouse Fresh smelled so darn good.  My pedicure delivered the longest and most relaxing leg and food massage that included soaking my feet in rustic looking bowl in a beautiful sunny room with a cool afternoon breeze blowing by.
The facial was simply decadent since lotions were not applied to my face…they were massaged in!  Before my facial began, a lavender eye pillow was placed over my eyes, then I was told to take in three deep breathes and to relax into the facial bed as I inhaled the crispest Eucalyptus oil on the planet.  Oh My.  It was shear bliss.
During each treatment as I relaxed deeper and deeper, my mind became clearer and clearer.  The words balance kept dancing around  my head as my mind wandered from random thought to random thought.  I refused to allow anything serious to visit my mind as I enjoyed all the scents and sensations of MyPurMist.  I truly tried to be in the moment.
In that moment though, I realized I’ve been out of balance.  Now, to me balance to can be interpreted as, “time for myself to rest, find peace and creativity”.  I like to think of balance as a puzzle piece that fits into the greater picture.  It’s the time I trade doing something for others for doing something for myself that rejuvenates and inspires me.  The beauty of balance is that even though spa time is incredibly wonderful, we can find moments of balance and peace every day.  Sometimes, drinking my first cup of hot tea in the morning while watching the quail run across our field brings me great peace or creating art for grins and getting my fingernails painted all bring balance to my life.

As goofy as it sounds, I find balance daily in relaxing on my little bench while using my favorite sinus gadget, Lime Spa Reno.  I know that sounds hokey, but I love the feel of the mist and the quiet time.  Doesn’t take much to please me, clearly.
If you live in Reno or visit us, try to check out MyPurMist…it is just so sweet, darling and is located in funky Midtown.  Midtown is a re-vitalized area of Reno that reminds me living back in the San Francisco Bay Area; interesting shops, art, fabulous eateries, a brewery, fabulous food from SUPand some great consignment shops (fellow thrift shoppers–there are some serious places here).  You can even order Lime Spa Reno while enjoying your spa treatment!

Thank you MyPurMist for my raffle prize of spending a spa day with friends at your lovely establishment!

Do you have a special way you find balance each day that you can share with us?
