Another Child Dies from Food Allergy

You are here: Home / Allergy Deaths / Another Child Dies from Food Allergy

December 18, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 3 Comments

I hope this is the last sad story of the year and many months to come, but after posting yesterday about Andrew’s death, I felt it was important to honor little Shimmer’s death to Anaphylactic Shock. I was traveling two weeks ago without access to a computer when I heard about her death.  By the time I returned home, word had spread about a fundraiser taking place to help her mother out with funeral costs, etc.  I believed that everyone had probably read about Shimmer and did not need another article.  I was wrong.  I couldn’t shake the thought of not honoring Shimmer, her family and her life.  Each food allergy passing needs to be honored, learned from and remembered with love and passion to raise awareness and find a cure.
Shimmer's food allergy death
Just one look at the photo of her and mother tells a story of a loving life together that was ended due to food allergies.  Friend’s of Shimmer’s mother have established a Fundraiser to help cover costs.  I can’t begin to understand the pain and grief that Shimmer’s mother is experiencing, but unfortunately, there are far too many families who are experiencing the same grief.
The need to find a cure and for further education of food allergic families and communities across our nation is needed more than ever.  The solutions lay within us.

Fundraiser for Shimmer’s Mom (to help with the painful and unexpected costs of Shimmer’s tragic death).

Be part of the change and keep the conversation and work for advocacy going-we won’t stop until there is a cure.  Right?
p.s.  I just added allergy death as one of my blog post categories.  That made me cry.  This is ridiculous beyond words.  We must be part of the solution-somehow.

So sad. I am fairly new to food allergies myself and the more I hear of these stories, the more I want to help children with food allergies. Keep spreading the word and let us know what we can do to stop these senseless deaths.

Thanks for commenting Amy, it’s really, really sad and I think we just need to keep talking and working towards education and cures!

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
