Adorable! I just downloaded this new FREE (once again I get to use my favorite word) Anaphylaxis food allergy teaching tool: Chase the Class Champ Storybook. I have been a Scholastic fan since “back in the day” and was rather nostolgic when I downloaded this fun Scholastic Interactive Anaphylaxis Storybook presented in partnership by Sanofi (the makers of the Auvi-Q® epinephrine auto-injectors). The App, which can be downloaded from iTunes or the Google Play Store offers a story about a character starting at a new school and deciding if he should tell his new class about his peanut allergy. NOTE: I was not paid by Sanofi to write a review, download the app or to say anything nice. My goal is to share anything I stumble upon that might be of use to our allergy and asthma community.
It’s been a while since I’ve colored!
Some interesting features of this food allergy interactive learning tool:
- The story can be read by you, your child OR you can play the narration (I wanted to be read to, so I used this function).
- The story is focused on preschool and elementary aged children.
- Readers play a game as the story is read, searching for items to be placed in a backpack.
- I took a break from the story to color within the app (3 images to choose from)!
- I also was able to record a few notes to myself while “reading” the story–how fun is that?
- There are additional links and resources for parents to find more information, such downloadable Emergency Action Plans, Allergy Cards and Anaphylaxis data.
You can create your own voice recording during the story!
I downloaded the story to my iPad instead of my phone for ease of use. I enjoyed the story line about acceptance and learning how to BE WHO YOU ARE. This is the one biggest lessons I hope and pray my children will leave home understanding. Life is well lived when we are able to simply be ourselves. I’ve learned to embrace that spiders will torment me endlessly, I rely on spell check and my children have chronic disease. I am inspired by all stories that lead children, in any situation, to be who they are.
