Yes, cold and flu season will be upon us before we know it. So, the tip of the week is: start the habit of washing your hands BEFORE you eat or prepare foods, when you arrive home and well, pretty darn often. Hands are fabulous carriers of germs so kill right then and there. For those of us managing asthma, a simple cold is an asthma trigger and can cause several days of illness. Actually, the number one reason for missed school days IS asthma! So, keep the colds at bay and stay in school and/or at work! From my food allergy cross contact perspective, I LOVE the idea of hand washing. You just can’t go wrong (now I am talking real hand washing, not using hand sanitizer here). Medline Plus–an online library service provided by the National Institute of Health has some tips on GERMS and HYGIENE.

The Mayo Clinic even has a few words about Hand washing: Do’s and don’t s!
So…wash your hands and use a nice moisturizer post washing on those now chapped hands! It’s worth the dry hands..right?
