Well, as much I feel sometimes that pharmaceuticals, in my love/hate relationship that I have with them, are out to earn as much $$ as they can. Period. Even though I still don’t feel right about Dey not selling single pack Epi Pens®, I concede and believe they might be right after all. Yes, I said it. They are right in selling two packs. The news is out about Tyler Davis, a student at Kennesaw State University, who died of an allergic reaction last month after eating at a campus dining hall. His first dose of epineprhine was lost due to a bent needle. He never received the life saving medication he needed. If he had a second dose available, he might be here today.
Updated Story of GA college student’s food allergy death
I still can’t imagine the pain his family is going through right now. A second dose could have saved him? We’ll never know, but clearly it could have helped. I pray his family finds peace one day. How does one get over this kind of loss, I just don’t know.
My children all carry two doses just for this reason…if something goes wrong. So, as much as I grumble about Dey’s choice, they are right. My concern is still real and I do worry about someone not being able to afford two and folks simply not buying any at all. Only time will tell and I pray not at the cost of a life.
