The best anaphylaxis warning yet…

You are here: Home / Research / The best anaphylaxis warning yet…

February 10, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

…came on a card with a yellow latex band in a butt lift work-out kit!  Okay, here comes the confession first:  my husband, bless his little heart (you know when someone starts with this phrase they really mean: oh dear God), often tries to be incredibly thoughtful.  He wants to buy me things that I really, really want and will use.  Right after we were married, he listened to me complain that I couldn’t find that fabulous salt rock deodorant I bought in Thailand  here in the US.  Lo and behold, Valentine’s Day rolls around complete with a big white box topped with a red bow.  Yahoo, I thought, I hit the jackpot.  Inside, was that rock salt deodorant.  I was happy to receive it, he was even happier to have bought me something really special, but at work the next day when all the gals were talking about roses, wine and dinner I got to explain I received deodorant!  Yes, I was that girl who got deodorant as a gift.  Last year, he listened to me complain that I really needed to re-learn how to apply my make-up since I’m now middle aged and need to look age appropriate.  So, what did he do?  He signed me up for make-up class as a surprise gift.  Yup, me and 20 silver haired ladies enjoyed a make-up class together!    So..what was the gift that just arrived in a box this week?

The Brazil Butt Lift  work out kit!

Oh ya, I am the proud own of this work-out.  In all seriousness, after I finally opened up the box and pulled out all the materials, my respect for the producers of the product zoomed up as I realized that the workout was all about healthy eating, fish, no meat, veggies and fruits, no junk and lunges galore.  What really impressed me was the warning card that came with the “booty band”…a bright yellow exercise band.  The band was packaged in a separate sealed plastic bag with a card that explained Care, Safety and a very serious warning.

This is what the warning said, “The Booty Band is made with Natural Rubber Latex (NRL), which may cause minor to life threatening allergic reactions.  Minor symptoms include hives or nasal congestion.  Severe reactions may result in anaphylaxis, a dangerous systemic reaction that causes a drop in blood pressure; difficulty breathing; swelling of the throat, tongue, and nose; and even loss of consciousness, and could be life threatening if left unattended.  Emergency medical attention is needed at the first sign of anaphylatic reaction.  Call 911 if this occurs.

Wow.

I had never in my eleven years of managing my children’s food allergies ever seen a warning for anaphylaxis.  I was humbled and felt guilty about thinking that the Brazil Butt Lift kit was some cheesy workout with no true exercise value.  The work out is great, the food guide and recipes are spot on.  More importantly, I was thoughtfully warned about the exercise band and what could occur and what to do if something did happen.  I’m not sure who at Beach Body, the producers of the Brazil Butt workout, thought about adding that warning, but I bow to that person!  Great job who ever you are!

This weekend, I will start the entire program of using the videos according to “the plan” that fits my needs and I will begin the food program too, but modified to avoid nuts and dairy.  I am hoping this is my Valentine’s Day gift since I have plenty of deodorant and make-up in my drawers these days.
Have a blast this weekend-Caroline
