I am personally grateful for Allergic Living Magazine stepping up and addressing the recent teen food allergy deaths. When these tragedies occur, emotions, fear and other feelings rise up. There is no way around these issues other than pausing and looking at them head on.
I am wickedly biased, (I am an Allergic Living Contributor) and I ask you pause for moment, think about how you are preparing your child for the teen years and to read, “Teen Food Allergy Tragedies: Why We Must Say – No More”, by Allergic Living editor Gwen Smith. If you already are raising or love a teenage, then equally as important are the results of a group discussion led by food allergy parent Nicole Smith that she shares in, “Teens Speak Up About Averting Food Allergy Tragedies”.
The bottom line is that educating ALL PEOPLE WITH LIFE THREATENING food allergies is important and needed in addition to building a society that can understand and support this disease.

One of the hardest things I find about managing both life threatening food allergies and asthma is talking to others. I hate to be the one that might be perceived as demanding, pushing or for asking too much. What I now know, fourteen years later, is that honest, clear information presented with kindness works!..
