SunCups Recall Details: You Might Speak to their CEO

You are here: Home / Current Blog Post / SunCups Recall Details: You Might Speak to their CEO

November 11, 2016 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

suncups-recall GratefulfoodieLast night I received a very sad email from Free2B Foods, the makers of my beloved Sun Cups,  apologizing for bothering me so late at night. They wanted to sound the alarm of a voluntary recall involving a few Sun Cups produced in August that may have inadvertently contained dairy. I immediately jumped on social media to share. Many of you might already heard the good news about Free 2 B Foods going dairy free. Their products contained dairy and over the summer, they stopped producing products with dairy. Please see below for the lot numbers involved in the recall. From Free2B:

As you may know, we have been working for the past year to remove milk from our recipes and facility in an effort to offer Top 8 Allergen-Free treats. We have been producing some of our dairy-free chocolates for a few months, and our facility officially became dairy-free on September 1, 2016. We are recalling some chocolate Sun Cups that were made prior to our complete elimination of dairy, due to a potential contamination with milk ingredients.

Important note: If you attended the blogger conference, those items were not effected in this recall, only the batched listed below.
What broke my heart last night, was the devastation I felt from the makers of Sun Cups. It has always been clear that Free2B Foods, as a company, wants to protect our families while producing a high quality candy. When I first met David Lurie, the President and CEO of Free2B Foods, I was thrilled. He is a hospitality guy, (one of my favorite types), lived in Reno and has an extreme passion for quality chocolate. What is not to love? BUT, the most important element is his continued commitment to chocolate, free from foods and US!
david-lurie Gratefulfoodie Sun Cups RecallLurie is devoted to the point that you will most like reach him when you call the special recall number, 720-470-3257 ! There is no denying his faithfulness to the Allergic Community and his concerns for our safety.
You can read Free2B Foods’ press release here and learn about their top 8 allergen free practices in the Free2B Foods FAQ.

Batches included in the Voluntary Recall:

Product Name: Chocolate Sun Cups – in Purple Packaging
UPC Code for Double Cups: 895444001405
UPC Code for Single Cups: 895444001443
Sell By Dates: 02 Aug 17, 04 Aug 17, 07 Aug 17
If you also don’t know, I’m purely addicted to Sun Cups and now that I am on Weight Watchers, these are my serious go to dessert! I am blue that Free2B is dealing with a recall, but extremely happy that they reached out late at night to make sure consumers could start alerting each other. They are part of our tight knit food allergy community and they knew we would respond as a community, by sharing the news.
I have complete faith that their other products are safe and fine for my family and friends and, I confess, I ate the Sun Cup depicted in the image above.
Disclaimer: I was not paid by Free2B Foods to be sad and wanting to help sound the alarm. They are part of my community that I am grateful for and I hope I was able to do my part.
