Shop and Support Food Allergy Education & EGID Research

Our food allergy community friends in Salt Lake City, Utah are hosting a fun online Auction to help support their food allergy education efforts, support and research in Utah.  Check out the lovely items they have up for bid at Eosinophilic Disorders sponsored by Eosinophil-Associated Gastrointestinal Disorder) & the Utah Eosinophilic Disorders Association (UEDA).   100% of proceeds to benefit UFAN programs and UFAN & UEDA 2012 Online Silent Auction (EGID) research in Utah.  With the Holidays around the corner, you might find something of interest.  Please share with all of your Salt Lake City, UT friends too!

The UFAN ends on November 17th, 2012!  Click here to Visit the eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Since I did am unfamiliar about life with EGID, Michelle Fogg of EoE shared this with me:  “A subset of children and adults with life threatening IgE mediated food allergies also develop these disorders, the most common form being eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) which affects 1:2000. About 50% of these kids also have asthma and other co-morbid conditions. My daughter and I both have Gina Cowles although she is much more severe and we are actually preparing her a ‘last supper’ tomorrow – ‘safe’ Thanksgiving dinner early only using chicken and rice and apples – before she goes solely onto an amino acid based elemental formula for her total nutrition until we can get her symptoms and histology to remiss. Then starts the long and hard process of trialing foods back in. We’ve been trying to figure things out with this for her for a year and a half now and it is very challenging and affecting to her and the entire family. SO that is why we are also donating research funds raised by this auction to research. Three and maybe four of our board members now have children who are diagnosed with these disorders in addition to their severe food allergies”.
Life can be so challenging and I am in awe of families who not only step up the plate in helping their own family members, but who continue onward to help others facing the same health challenges.  Bravo to EoE and their supporters, sponsors and kind donors for working towards solutions.

Some items are for local businesses and smaller items can be shipped.  I have a feeling the darling lamp maybe a local’s only item, but please email EoE with questions before bidding at Starbucks or call them at  (801) 949-0092.  Some of the the items that caught my eye were: a food allergy coaching session from Gina Clowes (value $150), a Halliburton Zeroller Carry On ($750 value), Starbucks gift sets and more!  Even though I have my eye a gift set, I am thinking of emailing and asking if can I pay the extra cost to have something packed and shipped at the local UPS store or if my pal who lives in Salt Lake City can pick up my prize (if I win) and bring it on her next trip to Reno.

How can shopping before the Holidays in the name of food allergies or EGID be a bad thing?

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
