Send Love and Prayers to Senator Smith

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Send Love and Prayers to Senator Smith

February 4, 2015 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

gratefulfoodie-senatorsmithpost1-feb-2015Our Nevada food allergy hero, Senator Debbie Smith, was just diagnosed with an OPERABLE brain tumor yesterday.  She traveled to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Texas for treatment.  Her surgery is Friday, so I’m asking our food allergy community to keep her in your thoughts, say a prayer, send good joo-joo and/or love for a successful surgery and recovery.  Senator Smith is important to our community not only because of her leading our charge to mandate stock epinephrine in Nevada schools, but that she is bringing our issue to other legislators on a national level.
Last summer, I joined Senator Smith and we spoke at the National Conference of State Legislators on “Protecting People with Life Threatening Food Allergies” to hopefully inspire other states to continue the good work in keeping all citizens with anaphylaxis safe at school, work and in their communites.  She also has a grand-daughter with a life threatening food allergy.
Note: thank you Las Vegas Advocates Homa Woodrum, Keith Norman and Susanne Stark for this great photo of you all advocating with Senator Smith regarding epinephrine entity law!
If you would like, please drop her an email of love and support:  Debbie.Smith@sen.state.nv.us
gratefulfoodie-senatorsmithpost2-feb-2015Here is a short post from Senator Smith’s on her website: My Health Update

Any and all good thoughts and prayers are welcomed for Food Allergy Hero Senator Debbie Smith!

p.s. This picture was taken on the opening night of the first Food Allergy Blogger Conference!  She was very inspired that evening by our food allergy community.

Senator Smith is blocks away from our home in Texas, so our good wishes are on the express route!

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
