Your School Received their FREE EpiPens Yet?

You are here: Home / EPI / Your School Received their FREE EpiPens Yet?

October 31, 2014 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

This program thrills me to no end!  For one Reason: Andrue Casado-an 8th grade student who is here with us today thanks to EpiPens® and their free program for schools.  I was very happy to learn this week that the EpiPen® 4 Schools program will be extended into 2015 AND that a new training video, “Anaphylaxis: Know It. See It. Treat It. Training Video” has been released as well.  This is BIG news for schools struggling with the financial burden of stocking epinephrine and needing tools to educate staff!  Andrue experienced his first allergic reaction while at school during a home economics class and was in trouble.  Thankfully, his school had received free EpiPens® as part of the EpiPen 4 Schools program sponsored by Mylan-the maker of EpiPen® .  A fast thinking nurse quickly administered epinephrine and Andrue’s physician confirmed that he would have died without it.  You should have heard the shouts of joy the day this front page article hit the news!  Our state legislature was buzzing and everyone across town was talking about it: our new stock epinephrine law worked and saved a life.
Disclaimer: I was not paid or asked to post about the EpiPen4Schools program, Mylan, Epipens or anything else I mention in today’s blog.  I am genuinely pleased with this program and want to see every school with stock epinephrine legislation taking full advantage of this program and resources.  It saved a life in Nevada and I’m positive will save many more.
epi saves life Andrue

The EpiPen 4 Schools program includes the following tools:

Note: I copied the following information into this blog post…

  • Four EpiPen or EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors: With a qualifying prescription, each calendar year schools can apply online to receive two EpiPen 2-Pak® cartons, two EpiPen Jr 2-Pak® cartons or one 2-Pak of each kind.
  • Anaphylaxis: Know It. See It. Treat It. Training Video: The video is available on DVD or for download at EpiPen4Schools.com
  • EpiPen® Trainer: Designed to practice administration technique, the EpiPen Trainer contains no drug product or needle.
  • EpiLocker™: A brightly colored unit to store the free EpiPen and/or EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors received through the program, so they are easily identifiable in the event of an emergency.
  • Replenishment Offer: Qualifying schools that use the free supply of EpiPen Auto-Injectors to respond to anaphylaxis may order a replenishment supply at no additional cost.
  • Online Order Process: Schools may now submit and track their orders online.

Please share this information with your school and other parents–this program is valid for states that allow or mandate stock epinephrine.  I have discovered that many schools do not realize this program exists – so spread the word–it might save a life.
