Royal Allergies: The Princess and the Peanut children's book is a rock star!

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Royal Allergies: The Princess and the Peanut children's book is a rock star!

November 14, 2011 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 1 Comment

During our local Food Allergy and Asthma Education Group’s annual Halloween bash, this new book was raffled off:  The Princess and the Peanut; A Royal Allergic Fairytale by Sue Ganz-Schmitt and Illustrated by Michah Chambers-Goldberg.  It caught my eye so off to Amazon my fingertips ran!  This new favorite book has bumped out our evening National Geographic reading!  I simply love this book and want to buy it for every child I know.  Why?  For a few simple reasons…

  • The story is charming, funny and well written (after her food allergic reaction, the Princess is skin tested for the eight major allergens plus, three blind mice, witches and dragons)
  • The illustrations are interesting and rich with color and story (check out the page with the How to Solve Village squabbles and Jousting for Fun and Profit)
  • The medical aspect is accurate (immediate dispensing of ephinephrine, observation, allergy testing and adjustments made to the royal kitchen)
  • At the end of the book, there are two wonderful pages offering food allergy basics and definitions
  • The Official Royal Allergic  website and the author are both really nifty too-check out what she does-she is an amazing lady.
  • My eight year old daughter loves and it has brought it to school to share where the kids are enjoying it too!

Thank you Sue Ganz-Schmitt and Michah Chambers-Goldberg for providing a useful tool for Food Allergy Education!

You are my rock stars today!

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
