Making peace that I forgot to dust my house before the interview, I am still thrilled that we had the opportunity to discuss the Teal Pumpkin Project™ with my local ABC Affiliate along with parent Erin Hess–who is a TEAL PUMPKIN rock star!!! Erin has introduced the Project to many businesses locally–including schools-she is a terrific mom. I am so pleased with how Becky Baselone and the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee took her idea teal pumpkin concept to Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) to help spread worldwide awareness of the Teal Pumpkin Project™. The concept had been embraced in all fifty states and multiple countries! Thank you, Becky for your brilliance, and to FARE for the FREE materials, posters and flyers!!!

The goal of the project is to invite citizens to place a teal colored pumpkin outside of their home on Halloween night to identify a non-candy giving household! The idea is fun and inclusive for not only kids with food allergies, but children who need to avoid sugar or other food ingredients. It’s a win-win for everyone.

To be honest, after handing out non-candy treats for 14 years, I only had one boy ask for candy last year. The kids love the diversity of toys and other items. Actually, the boy leaned in and whispered, “don’t you know you’re suppose to give candy!” I howled–he thought I was confused!
