Parents ARE the Change Makers

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Parents ARE the Change Makers

October 10, 2014 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

I have always loved this phrase:  boots on the ground! That completely describes you and me.  We are all boots on the ground food allergy types.   Today, I’m asking you to explore another way of raising awareness and saving lives by participating in a webinar!  We all play a role (unknowingly) and the magical key for change is a simple understanding:  it’s within our reach!  Learn how you are important and how you are the key to making great things happen.  I’m serious here.  Everyone has something of great value to offer–that two minute email or Facebook post has GREAT value along side other advocates testifying or reaching out to constituents.  Come sit with us at our virtual table on October 21st, 2014, 1PT EST (10am PDT) and learn how powerful the average every day food allergy parent really is…

FREE Webinar:  How Parents Can Change Laws to Protect Students with Food Allergies presented by Kids With Food Allergies (KFA) – Division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA)

Some of us already advocate in very loud and public ways, others advocate by sending a tweet or short email to legislators.  Some of our own little ones advocate by using their crayons to optimal levels.  You might raise awareness by educating a teacher, neighbor or friend-this contributes to advocating.
I am honored and excited to share that I will join Charlotte Collins, JD and Vice President of Policy and Programs for AAFA and Larrissa Kaczaniuk, Advocacy and Outreach Manager for AAFA as we explore the possibilities for 2015 and how parents truly can change laws to protect our children.  I’m not bragging, oh okay, I’m bragging, BUT…if you look back over the last three years at our community of food allergy parents, our tribe has generated impressive impact on over 40 states with stock epinephrine law or regulation.  It’s stunning to be honest.  Parents across the nation have found a voice and power like no other.

Thank you once again to KFA and AAFA for inviting me to participate in this exciting Webinar!  KFA has been offering education food allergy Webinars for several years now and I’m thrilled to included.  I sometimes will browse KFA webinar archives for topics of interest, if you haven’t checked out their webinars, today must might be the day!

Hope  to “virtually” see you on October 21st for the “How Parents Can Change Laws to Protect Students with Food Allergies” webinar.

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
