Pretzilla Saves the Nutfree Day!

You are here: Home / Current Blog Post / Pretzilla Saves the Nutfree Day!

March 30, 2016 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 4 Comments

Pretzilla Burger Bun gratefulfoodie.comNot once, but twice Pretzilla has come to the rescue of my nut free life. Our first encounter with these soft light and airy pretzel buns was at Christmas time when I realized I was short on time with over twenty guests expected on Christmas Eve. We had an interesting assortment of dietary restrictions including nut-dairy-sesame free needs based on anaphylaxis and other health reasons. As I piled high my stack of pretzel buns I thought I had better keep an eye on the mountain made of buns and cover them to they don’t dry up. When I swung by the mountain I discovered a desert. Only a few crumbs were left behind!
My second save arrives this week as my daughter and I continue to tour Washington, D.C. on a school trip. Unfortunately, the Holocaust Museum was not able to accommodate my daughter’s tree nut allergy and I was told to bring a bag lunch. This is tricky since I don’t have a kitchen at our hotel. So, not only is Pretzilla coming to my rescue, the Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) in Washington, D.C. is too! During our upcoming group breakfast at the HRC, they will provide me with the fixings for a sandwich that we will slip into a Pretzilla sausage bun and pack on ice for the afternoon excursion.  I will share more about my Hard Rock Cafe experience when I return to Reno, but they have been outstanding to say the least. It is very simple in my world: safe food equals less stress.
I am feeling very grateful to both companies for their work to provide me with high-quality food while keeping my child safe. Can a food allergy mom ask for more? Other than a day at the spa, the answer is no for me.
love GratefulfoodieWhy I am professing my undying pretzel bun love to Pretzilla…

  • Culinary genius–free of my family’s allergens while offering a very delightful bun full of quality and flavor
  • My kind of variety–I can choose from burger buns, sausage rolls, mini buns and pretzel bites
  • The best allergen statement I have seen to date–see below

Succulent success aside, the allergen statement is worth reading.

ALLERGEN INFORMATION

All of our Pretzilla products are free from tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, coconut, sesame, seafood, and shellfish.
Our facility does currently process eggs, wheat, and soy lecithin (there’s no soy protein). We take every step possible to prevent cross-contamination with our Pretzilla products, but whenever humans are involved in the process, cross-contamination is an unfortunate possibility. Because transparency to customers is of paramount importance to us, we cannot recommend the consumption of our products if they have an egg, wheat, or soy allergy.
Our Pretzilla products contain gluten.

The sentence about humans is perfect. The bottom line is that we are all human and we make mistakes. I think it is very important for companies to not make statements that are humanly impossible to guarantee. I appreciate Pretzilla’s honesty in announcing that accidents do happen. Thankfully, my son is no longer allergic to egg, so these buns are great for my family.
A package never lasts longer than 48 hours once it is opened in my house. They toast the buns, they make sandwiches, they add jam or just eat them warmed up slightly. We’re fans clearly.
disclaimer: Pretzilla has not provided me with product, has not asked me to talk about them, but did share the above photo with me when I called to profess my love and to beg for the picture. I could not take a decent photo to save my life, so I turned to begging! My hope if for our community to find more savory and tasty solutions.

Oooh, thanks so much! I don’t know that I’ve ever seen this in Richmond, VA, but I will keep my eye out. Or maybe I’ll just have to order online and get them shipped! (Love your disclaimer. Hee, hee)
