The Podcast that's Like Talking to Your Best Friend

You are here: Home / Current Blog Post / The Podcast that's Like Talking to Your Best Friend

December 14, 2016 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

parenting-food-allergy-podcast-episode-7Have you ever met someone and think, darn it why isn’t she or he my neighbor? If they did live next door, you’d be over their house “borrowing” a cup of sugar constantly. That describes the personable host of Parenting Food Allergies Podcast, Sue Webb. The podcast name says it and all when I asked Webb why she crafted this name, her answer was simple. “having a child with food allergies is like having an additional child. It is always with you. You worry about it all the time, you are constantly trying to care for and make accommodations for it”. I had the honor and the best time recording  recent Parenting Food Allergy Podcast, “2016 Holiday Gift Guide for Food Allergy Kids with Caroline Moassessi” We discussed interesting gift ideas and why when giving a special food allergy related gift says more than here is a treasure, it says, I care for you and embrace your food allergies too!
If you don’t know, I’m the lucky gal who is the Product Review Editor for Allergic Living Magazine. This translates into eating and shopping my way through our allergic, asthmatic and Celiac world to source interesting solutions that make the our lives better. I was thrilled when Webb invited me to talk about gift ideas and Allergic Living’s freshly released Holiday Gift Guide (Winter Edition, which you can now find at Barnes Noble. Yes, I did go to my local store to buy a copy just because I could). Note: Alisa Fleming, founder of Go Dairy Free is the goddess of words who works her literary magic to bring those products to life.
Sue Webb is simply that person in which you want to spend time with talking and learning about food allergies. Hosting a Podcast couldn’t be any more perfect for her personality, quick wit and intelligence.
gift-1760869_1920 PixabayWebb shared, “My mission for the podcast is to offer a reassuring voice for parents and caregivers of food allergy children. The podcast is designed to be like a conversation that a parent or caregiver can listen to and find out about a variety of food allergy subjects such as testing, coordinating life, research, cooking and the social aspects of food allergies from experts and also every day parents”. She added, “I try to insert my own personal stories and life lessons (both good and bad) that I learned along the way because trust and understanding are very important in the food allergy caregiver world”. Episodes include fun topics like shopping, food allergy related entertainment. Her goals are to provide a podcast that digs into food allergy topics which provide, “a resource plus a reassuring and reasonable voice for parents and caregivers on the often lonely road of parenting food allergy kids.”
I don’t want to give away the fun, but we chatted about some fabulous ideas that you might want relatives learning about!
Her motto?  “I try to really focus on the positive and insert humor into the conversations.” I laughed so much with with woman, that I vouch for her humor! Webb considers herself as someone who is a “voice of reason for many people in her life. She is a self proclaimed plain spoken Midwesterner who is nosy and enjoys learning about new things and interacting with people. ” I also know that I have a very unique perspective as a food allergy mom because I have a son with life long food allergies (he had his first reaction as an infant) and a son who did not experience his first reaction until he was 18 years old, Webb discussed.

I asked Webb to share a thought for the day…
One of the many positive things about living with children with food allergies is that it shows us that life is precious and that each day is a gift. I remind myself of this daily so I can try to not worry so much and enjoy my life more.
I really am grateful for having met Sue Webb and I truly look forward to listening to more of her podcasts as her positive energy is just infectious and keeps it all real. Maybe while you are driving to work or folding laundry, you’ll listen in, pick up someone ideas or tips and smile.
