Playing with Dolls who have Food Allergies

You are here: Home / Current Blog Post / Playing with Dolls who have Food Allergies

July 6, 2015 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 3 Comments

American Girl allergen play setA girl’s trip resulted two adult women, (the other shall remain nameless to protect the innocent), buying the American Girl Allergy Free Lunch kit.  It was ridiculously adorable and we could not help ourselves.  My daughter chose her treasures while we bought ours.  I blogged about this kit when it first hit the market and then failed to order it as planned.  But, when I saw it in person, it was too cute to pass up.  I think what pulled at my heart-strings was the symbolism of food allergies becoming main stream.  The Allergy Free Lunch Kit was on display, in its full glory in one of the most popular doll shop in America that has sold over 27 million American Girl (AG) dolls sold since its inception in 1986.
Sixty-seven million Opportunities. The AG website alone receives over 67 million visitors per year. In addition to 72 million visitors to their retail store locations.  To me, my ears hear: 67 million opportunities for others to see an Allergy Free lunch as a normal everyday concept.  #FoodAllergyAwareness!
Diversity. Per the AG website, their goal from the get go is to, ” create dolls and stories that act as both mirrors and windows—giving girls an opportunity to see a direct reflection of themselves or a chance to learn about a life or culture that may be very different from their own”.  Amen!
No Burdens Here.  Food allergies are a new national health concern and until the cure or treatments are found, it is okay to start acting main stream.  If the American Girl Store can embrace life threatening food allergies as the new normal, so can we!

Bravo American Girl for welcoming my daughter and her disease to main stream America!

I am not sure, but I would visit the website and see if they ship overseas. I just could not leave the store without buying one! They are sooo adorable.

I LOVE this! I grew up reading American Girl books and I had the Samantha doll. Great find and great for awareness! Thanks for sharing!
