Online Peanut Allergy Summit: Learn About Molecular Allergy Testing

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Online Peanut Allergy Summit: Learn About Molecular Allergy Testing

June 25, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 2 Comments

Do you know what molecular allergy testing is?  I don’t today, but I assuming that by Wednesday afternoon I will be able to speak to it!  Below is what The Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America (AAFA) shared with me so that I could help spread the word.   Consider mark your calendars for this Wednesday or Thursday and sign up below for one of two dates being offered to attend the Online Peanut Allergy Summit.  I am very curious about this new testing a few friends have used this type of testing on their children, truthfully, I have yet to sit down with them to find out details!

I would like to know the following and plan on participating in the online summit to ask my questions.

[unordered_list style=”red-x”]

  • If this testing has FDA approval?
  • Has this molecular testing has been peer reviewed?
  • How costly is it?
  • What is the rate of accuracy?
  • Most of all: what is the value of this new testing versus current diagnostic methods?

[/unordered_list]

From the kind folk at AAFA:  details and how to sign up for the Online Peanut Allergy Summit: Learn About Molecular Allergy Testing….

The ImmunoDiagnostics business of Thermo Fisher Scientific will be hosting an online peanut allergy summit next week to help educate those with suspected peanut allergy (and their parents) about advancements in molecular allergy testing. Their goal is to share the most current information that may make a difference in the lives of families and individuals with peanut allergy. The summit is free, open to anyone, and will take place online at two different dates/times next week, for your convenience:
Wednesday, June 27th, 1:00 – 2:00 pm EST (10am for us West Coast types)
Thursday, June 28th, 4:30- 5:30 pm EST (1:30pm for us West Coast types)
The program will feature expert insight from  ImmunoDiagonostics Medical Director, Dr. Rob Reinhardt as well as Dr. Maeve O’Connor, a board certified allergist in private practice in Charlotte, NC. Their presentations will provide greater clarity about how new technology is changing the way peanut allergy is diagnosed and managed, and will be followed by a live Q&A session in which attendees can pose questions to the physicians.  As a special bonus, our own food allergy tribe member Yael Kozar,  food allergy Mom extraordinaire and advocate will also be on hand too!

TO SIGN UP:  You can visit ThermoFisher Scientific’s Allergy blog to sign up for this free summit and for additional information: http://www.isitallergyblog.com/invitation-2/#more-468

If you haven’t visited AAFA’s website before, I highly suggest a quick visit as AAFA educates, supports research and advocates for  ALL allergies: indoor, outdoor, food and drug, insect, latex, skin and eye in addition to asthma.
See you Wednesday (that’s the day I ‘m participating)as we learn together more about this type of testing!-Caroline
