Advocates nationwide have been speaking to local and national media regarding the high costs of EpiPens®. Gina Mennett Lee, Founder of Mennett Lee Food Allergy Consulting, said it best on social media when she discussed the “silver lining” of this public out cry. People are now having conversations in grocery stores, friends are asking details and if you have not heard the word EpiPen then you might have been out of the country!
This is our food allergy community’s moment to seize the day! People are paying attention and now we can dive in deep with some great awareness work. Advocates have been doing TV and print interviews and now have wonderful contacts. Schools and friends have been watching the headlines and have heard this drug is life-saving.
So, let’s talk to these people about how to avoid (insert voice change) getting into that life-saving situation. Let’s talk prevention. Let’s talk accommodations at school. Let’s talk about this invisible disease and make it visible.
Let’s just keep the conversation going!
I was extremely honored and thrilled to see the Huffington Post place my article, “Epipens® and Allergies: We Need to Keep the Conversation Going” on the front page of their Wellness Page as I took it as a huge nod to keeping the allergy conversation moving forward.
Teal Pumpkin time is just around the corner and what a great segue into awareness. I predict we’ll have a robust fall full of awareness.
Happy food allergy awareness raising!
