My Epic School Emergency Food Fail

You are here: Home / Current Blog Post / My Epic School Emergency Food Fail

Emergency food kit nut free IdeasMy Back-To-School Epic Food Allergy Fail for 2015: I forgot to send in my daughter’s Nut Free Emergency Food Kits for each classroom!  She is in middle school now and has seven classrooms to negotiate.  I just can’t believe in all my planning, I let this one slip!  I pulled together her “kits” over the weekend and she is heading off this morning to store one in each classroom. It is a reality that schools experience code reds (lock downs) or shelter in place events.  I can’t help be thinking of last year when school children could not get home due to a severe ice storm in Atlanta, GA.  I wondered about the students with food allergies.

Peanut,Tree Nut and Dairy Free Food Allergy Emergency Food Kit “recipe”…

  • Paper bag
  • Plastic knife
  • Individual Box of Crackers (Gluten free or to meet your food allergy needs)-I found these at my local CVS store.
  • Wowbutter Creamy 1.12oz Portion Cups
  • Sunflower Seed Spread On-The-Go No-Stir Packs
  • IM Healthy Soy Nut Butter single serve containers
  • Sharpie to write the teacher and student name on the bag
  • Stapler to staple bag closed

Note: Speak with your physician regarding appropriate foods for your child’s age and health needs.
Emergency Food Kit Bag nut free dairy freeShe is currently on a Wow Butter kick, so her kits are stuffed full with this yummy protein source.  When I lived in California, my son’s school required Earthquake kids complete with canned foods, so I would buy him canned chicken–praying he would never have to eat it!  Thankfully, we now have these single serving spreads available!  Boy, have we come a long way.

The Epic School Food Allergy Fail is now being corrected!  Phew.
