Is It A Lunch Box or Food Allergy Awareness?

You are here: Home / Food Allergy Lifestyle / Is It A Lunch Box or Food Allergy Awareness?

August 21, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

It’s both!  I”ve always been a huge fan of Laptop Lunches Bento boxes and carriers, but when Allergy Apparel produced a food allergy awareness version–I thought we hit food allergy pay dirt!  Interestingly enough, Allergy Apparel just kept going and going with the lunch concept and now they offer a broad assortment of lunch boxes that boldly go where no other food allergy kid has gone: designer lunch with food allergy awareness!  (note: see below for special coupon for Gratefulfoodie readers).

For little guys just starting school and younger elementary kids, I feel it is not a bad idea to blast a food allergy out there in the school cafeteria.   As our children age and learn how to articulate about their food allergies,  we can back off of the blinking neon banners and encourage their personal advocacy.  Until then, I enjoy the idea of these lunch boxes and labels that help classmates remember their pal’s food allergies.

Allergy Apparel seems to be the cool one stop lunch spot.  They offer lunch boxes and food allergy ID tags and even our most beloved Lunch Wrap Mats.  The mat wraps the sandwich and then serves as a lunch mat for the sandwich.  This is just brilliant when managing cross contamination.  The mat creates a barrier from table tops and my child’s food.  I am also a huge supporter of reusable containers  that are BPA free and the bento boxes are the best!  My son has been using Laptop Lunch’s bento boxes since he was 4 years old and he is starting high school today, still carrying one of the boxes!  The food allergy ID tags are simply adorable too–check those out.  Actually, I was thinking of ordering some just for when we travel to hang on backpacks, etc.  Even though I don’t have food allergies I will simply use it as a luggage tag.  They offer a His and Hers selection of tags.

Thank you Allergy Apparel—I made my first purchase 4 or 5 years ago and I have enjoyed watching your business and assortment grow as you help our food allergic kids feel hip, mainstream and normal.  Keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
