Hello FABLOGCON and Normalcy

You are here: Home / Educaton / Hello FABLOGCON and Normalcy

September 26, 2014 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

Today is the day! I feel like a kid about to kiss my parents goodbye as I head off to camp seeking a great adventure. As I mentioned in previous posts, the Food Allergy Blogger Conference is a powerful mix of education, research updates, community and incredible allergen friendly foods. I expect to enjoy some of the finest gluten free foods of the year at this event. It is a foodie’s heaven here too.  But, the real magic is described below…. It’s been hard to decide which presentations to sign up for since I am interested in blogging topics, research and advocacy and all of these tracks are running simultaneously.
The true great adventure is here is learning and finding my spot of normalcy. Fablogcon 2014 or bust
At FABLOGCON I am normal. For three solid days I’ll be like everyone else: reading labels, getting excited over a new nut free choice, listening to Dr. Li and how she is changing the world with Traditional Chinese Medicine and watching my favorite food allergy authors personally sign books for me. No one is going to question my label reading or look at my like I’m crazy when I squeal in delight when I find a new safe food for my family. No one will question my misty eyes when someone’s story touches my heart. When I kick off my heels and ask for a glass of wine, my actions will be met with with a knowing smile: mom is off food allergy duty right now!
My feelings of frustrations will be honored this weekend as I continue my quest for solutions, change and community. No one will look down on me as a high maintenance person when I explain recent issues of my son’s exclusion from his class being treated to a meal and being left to spend his own money to buy food from a grocery store. Instead, my food allergy community will offer advice and support. Well, off to drink wine with old and new friends while on my journey to find solutions and enjoying life along the way.

Thank you FABLOGCON and co-founders Jenny Sprague and Homa Woodrum for creating a special moment in time for our food allergy community.

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
