In the spirit of rejuvenating and giving myself the gift of simple time to stay in balance, I’m attempting to follow Basic Breathing techniques today that were created by Dr. Andrew Weil. My trusty cup of tea is at my side as I venture to learn more about breathing techniques that will take me one step closer to better health.
It looks so amazingly simple with promises of leading me to a less stressed and improved lifestyle. Dr. Weil explains that even if one is eating a healthy diet and exercising, lack of good breathing will affect your health. Basically, the triangle of good healthy living is completed with breathing well.
I have to say that is sounds down right odd, “you can’t experience good health without good breathing!” Well, of course, no breathing does equate death, is what I want to answer. In all seriousness, I do understand that good breathing techniques lead to better oxygenation of our bodies and directs us to meditative states that reduce stress and bring peacefulness.
Dr. Andrew Weil’s Breathing Basics is calling me to sit and practice eight simple breaths. He explains that breathing is a natural object of mediation and as I focus on my breath, I will change my consciousness, relax and “detach from ordinary consciousness”. I am encouraged that this technique will only take minutes and that I’m instructed that if I spent 10 seconds more today being aware of my breathing than yesterday, then I’ve made considerable strides of positive change.
Do you have any breathing techniques for stress reduction, finding balance or meditation that you can suggest?

[…] Last week, my Get Balance Wednesdays: Breathe blog was about taking time to learn a short breathing technique from Dr. Weil’s website and simply stopping to re-inspire myself, rejuvenate and re-invigorate. I enjoyed the exercise and agreed that it brought focus and some calmness too. Today’s hour break is about my cup of tea and trying out of Dr. Weil’s THREE BREATHING EXERCISES. I’m truly enjoying and have been looking forward to my scheduled rejuvenation time each week. […]
