Food Allergy Change! Join Team SB453

You are here: Home / Advocacy / Food Allergy Change! Join Team SB453

October 7, 2013 By //  by Caroline Moassessi Leave a Comment

In Nevada, Senator Debbie Smith is our stock epinephrine hero!  She was the force being SB453, Stock Epinephrine in Nevada Schools becoming a reality.  Her work and passion never ends and she will be leading TEAM SB453 at the Las Vegas Food Allergy Walk this November 2, 2013.  Here’s the good news:  if you can’t attend, you can still help raise funds to find a cure and support food allergy education initiatives in Nevada by signing up to a virtual walker!  Yes, you can walk in spirit.  Here is Senator Smith’s invitation to you, friends, family or colleagues to join her team…

Dear friends,

Meet my granddaughter, Aanika.

I hope you’ll join me as the Honorary Walk Ambassador for the Fare Walk for Food Allergy in Las Vegas on November 2nd.
Team SB 453 Needs You!

She, like so many Nevada children, is allergic to tree nuts. Her diagnosis raised my awareness about the rising rate of childhood food allergies, but also gave me my first exposure to the need to have EpiPens in our schools.
And we did it! SB453 requires EpiPens in schools and we know there have already been instances that having an EpiPen in school may have saved a life.
Food allergies can kill. Food allergies do not discriminate. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, tall or short or if you have blue eyes or green eyes. Food allergies affect people from all walks of life, and having EpiPens on hand can save the life of a child if they have an adverse reaction to an allergen while at school…maybe a child you know.
I hope you’ll join me as the Honorary Walk Ambassador. Team SB 453 will help raise awareness for this often times unknown condition. Be a part of continuing the work of SB 453, educating your family, your friends and your neighbors, and by helping this great organization spread the word to everyone else.
Hope to see you November 2nd in Las Vegas!
Debbie

Please consider joining Senator Smith’s team, every dollar helps, so even if you skip a latte and use those funds to join and donate, that moves us one latte closer right?

p.s.  Gratefulfoodie will have a booth at the walk too, so please stop by to say hello!

Tools to consider for Eating Out

Eating out with Food Allergies can be quite challenging. For my family, we view eating out as a risk and we use a variety of tools to help us make educated choices.  Most importantly, if we get a gut feeling something isn’t right, we leave or my children don’t eat the item and we find safe options elsewhere...Eating out Tips - Know before you Go
