Welcome to my new series: Food Allergy Baking and Cooking Hacks. A few times a month, I will share my handy culinary hacks. I’m also inviting you to share your hacks too! What’s a HACK? For the rest of the world, it’s using a computer to access unauthorized data. For me, regarding home cooking, it is a short cut or “cheat” to making fabulous food allergen safe foods! Please comment below and email me a picture of your hack with your recipe or instructions (short instructions) . If accepted, I’ll post your hack to my new Delicious Hack page (with full credit and appropriate links) AND I will mail you one handmade wine charm (or just the charm sans the ring) to say thanks! Gina Mennett Lee nudged me to share my hacks on my local ABC affiliate, but I also want to start the conversation over here so we can all share our hacks together.
Delicious Food Allergy Baking and Cooking Hacks
Hack #1: Seedless Jam in a bottle. Picture this: you’re enjoying vacation with relatives when someone dips their knife into butter (your allergen) and then bypasses the spoon already in the allergen safe jelly jar and dips in for some yummy sweetness. Cross contact! The jelly is no longer safe and thank goodness you were watching at that exact moment in time. This has happened to us so many times that I’ve given up bringing my own safe jams and jelly when visiting family. My solution: fill a squeeze bottle and then squeeze out jam or jelly on my kid’s breakfast or Sunbutter™ and Jelly sandwiches.
Ingredients/supplies
- Food allergen safe jam or jelly (seedless preferred)
- Wilton Mini Squeeze Bottles 2/Pkg-6 Oz.
Directions
- Stir jam or jelly to break up any clumps
- Carefully spoon into squeeze bottle
- Store in refrigerator
FUN IDEAS
- Squeeze on toast and write a message
- Use to make sandwiches
- Squeeze on dessert to add some pizzaz
SO, please share any of your hacks below or email me directly at caroline@gratefulfoodie.com and if your hack is accepted, I’ll make you a handmade whine charm! We can skip the wine charm ring and I’ll just send you the charm. One charm per food allergy baking or cooking hack.
Happy Food Allergy Baking and Cooking Hacking!
