Every year my son’s school requires students to go on an Outdoor Education Trip. In our food allergy world this translates to: how to plan food and environment to stay allergen safe. Usually, they are camping or glamping in cabins and there is a camp chef involved. After many phone calls, much stress and brainstorming, the above little gem was discovered a few years ago: restaurant TO GO containers!
Now, when my son goes on an overnight trip with his school, we simply prepare meals and send them on ice. They can be re-heated in the container with foil or top or placed on a plate and microwaved if they are glamping. There are many varieties of To Go containers, but we find the aluminum ones the best if camping is involved. The invention of these containers and the Sharpie improve our live greatly. It doesn’t take much these days to make us happy. I usually shop at my local restaurant supplier for To Go containers, but I discovered the package above at my local Dollar Tree store–for a mere $1.00.
What products do you use to pack your child’s food for overnight stays?
p.s. I was not paid or asked by Dollar Tree or the manufacturer of the To Go box to write about their products. As always, my goal is to share ideas that might make life with allergies better.
