Now, this story stopped the presses in our household yesterday when someone posted it on Facebook! Even though this is not directly related to food allergies, it has caused us to begin some research! Melinda Beck, from The Wall Street Journal wrote this story, “When Everyday Foods Are Hard to Digest: GI Specialists Suspect Specific Carbohydrates May Cause Painful Symptoms of Irritable Bowl Syndrome”. The article introduces us to a concept that is being developed in Australia as to why Irritable Bowl Syndrome suffers, suffer! Specialists are now looking at food intolerance and diet as the problem. What caught my eye was a statement about fructans IN wheat products causing problems instead of gluten???
Now I loosely avoid wheat for the ugly reasons of bloating and other unpleasant conversation. So basically, it seems to me the problem could be a fructose malabsorption issue?!?!
I haven’t read these yet, but here are the three links I’m going to check out…
