Macon, GA teens dies from food allergic reaction-our hearts are broken

You are here: Home / Allergy Deaths / Macon, GA teens dies from food allergic reaction-our hearts are broken

May 14, 2012 By //  by Caroline Moassessi 3 Comments

Our hearts once again are breaking in our food allergy community.  We’re still in shock from Ammaria’s school death in January and now  popular high school freshman, Diallo Robbins Brinson, of Macon, GA dying after eating a macadamia cookie containing peanuts in a restaurant.  I’ll try to post the various news reports as I find them (as of 5/16/12 I added three more), so please check back.
Of course, we have many questions:  was he carrying epinephrine?  Was it confirmed he ate in a restaurant?  Was there immediate emergency care?  We all are praying and thinking of his family during this devastating time.  As times moves forward, more answers are coming forth: he was not carrying epinephrine and was enjoying dinner with his soccer teammates when he ate a macadamia nut cookie.  His symptoms were sudden and his mother called 911 immediately.  A diner brought over an Epi Pen Jr, but the dose was too small for Diallo’s teenage body.  God bless his mother, she donated his organs so others could be saved.

Our food allergy community grieves together.  This type of situation brings up so many feelings for us:  fear, anger, confusion and just plain sadness that a young person has left our planet so soon.
Sending lots of love and prayers to Georgia from Reno, Nevada

How does this situation make you feel?
