I saw this sign this week at my local Starbucks and realized that the Starbucks ban on smoking on their patios was in full effect as of June 1st, 2013! GREAT job Starbucks on creating a safe environment for my lungs. I need clean air for my lungs and my asthmatic children require smoke-free to avoid asthma attacks. I appreciate a business that my family can enjoy together on a Sunday afternoon while basking in an environment that is responsible.

NPR’s blog post, “No Smoking Outside Starbucks Shops Starting Starting Saturday”, was quite fun to read. Actually the comments and their poll is what captured my attention. There is an online poll, that as of Monday night, June 10, 2013, their poll stated that 38.07% felt Starbucks was going too far while 61.93% felt they had not gone far enough. The comments are always the best reading to be honest. It’s fascinating to watch people write things not rooted in any sort of intelligence or knowledge and then watch an “intelligent” person try to rationalize with them! Although, there were some very good comments written on that post.
If you have any interesting photos of signs at Starbucks, can you share them with us? I have a secret love for public no-smoking signs.

One of the hardest things I find about managing both life threatening food allergies and asthma is talking to others. I hate to be the one that might be perceived as demanding, pushing or for asking too much. What I now know, fourteen years later, is that honest, clear information presented with kindness works!..
Good news to hear.
